Sasakawa Memorial Health Foundation (SMHF) provides grants to the projects related to Hansen’s Disease, Neglected Tropical Diseases, and Palliative Care. This time, SMHF is calling for project applications on Hansen’s Disease related projects for the fiscal year 2018 (April 2018 to March 2019). The submission deadline is 4th August 2017. Please read our Mission and Vision and Application guideline below before you send us the application.
1. Eligible Applicant
Applicants must be non-profit organizations based outside of Japan. This includes educational and research institutions. SMHF does not accept applications from, nor provide grants to, individuals or for-profit organizations.
2. Funding Areas
We are open for concur with three major focus of our funding focus as below.
A) Hansen’s Disease Elimination
B) Empowerment of people affected by Hansen’s Disease (including strengthening participation of persons affected by Hansen’s Disease in Hansen’s Disease services, and capacity building of groups & networks of persons affected)
C) Hansen’s Disease History
3. Eligible proposals
SMHF accepts multiple-year project proposals, but they must undergo screening every year. In principle, indirect costs should not exceed 10% of direct costs. Resubmission of previously rejected proposals cannot be accepted.
4. How to Apply
For applying to SMHF’s grants, please send a set of following documents to firstname.lastname@example.org.
1) A cover letter
The letter should be addressed to Mr Hideo Sato, Chair, Sasakawa Memorial Health Foundation.
2) A project proposal
We only accept applications using the application form below:
3) Project proposal process
August: Submission of a project proposal for the following fiscal year
October: Result of preliminary screening of proposed projects for the following fiscal year
March: Result of a final stage screening*
*The grant letter which confirms our support for the project is issued in the fiscal year that proposed project is to be carried out.
4) Annual reporting requirement
September 29th : Interim reporting on the ongoing project
December 22nd : Interim reporting on financial status of the ongoing project
March 9th : Submission of the financial report of the ongoing project
March 20th : Submission of the narrative report of the ongoing project
5) A project budget
Budget is on annual basis April to March, and has to be settled every year. Roll-over to the following fiscal year is not permitted. Detailed budget breakdown is necessary. Should you require sample budget breakdown format, please contact us.
6) Additional reference
If available, please attach the following additional information:
- The most recent annual report or information about the organization
- The most recent audited financial statements of the organization
- The organization’s current budget
- A copy of official documents certifying the organization’s legal and tax status
5. Application deadline
Any application for the following year needs to be submitted by early August.
For the fiscal year 2018 (April 2018 to March 2019), we kindly request your applications to reach us before 4th August 2017.
