With no decisive cure yet available, addressing HIV/AIDS demands a massive and persistent effort. SMHF has financially supported WHO and the Global Programme on AIDS' effort to disseminate information and promote public awareness of the issue. The foundation has also funded the participation of community workers and people living with HIV/AIDS, in international AIDS conferences held in Yokohama, Chiang Mai, Manila, Kuala Lumpur, and Bangkok.
SMHF realises the importance of comprehensive HIV/AIDS care, by peer-support groups. Thus, it supports the WHO Western Pacific Region's approach, which establishes peer-support groups composed of people living with HIV/AIDS, health workers and NGOs. Using a successful model developed in Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam have already established such groups. China is currently developing one as well.
