Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs)

Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) are a group of infectious diseases that mostly affect impoverished populations. Over 1 billion people are said to be threatened by one or more of the NTDs. In the past, SMHF supported control programs for Schistosomiasis and Lymphatic Filariasis. We also initiated the WHO’s Global Buruli Ulcer Initiative, dispatching Japanese experts to Asian and African countries. We will continue our contributions to the control of NTDs, in particular where these contributions complement our main focus, the control of Hansen’s disease.
