We are pleasantly informed of that last December, Mr. Artur Custodio, National Coordinator of MORHAN visited at Agua de Dios, where about 85% of the village population is occupied by people affected by leprosy and their families since 19 century – one of old leprosy colony in Colombia. MORHAN is the national wide organization of people affected by leprosy in Brazil and Artur is a unifying leader of that organization. He was welcomed by Mr Jaime Molina, Executive Director of Corsohansen, which is also the organization of people affected by leprosy based in Agua de Dios and actively working in whole of the country and even across neiborghing countries. Jaime and Artur – both strong leaders in Colombia and Brazil – met in last Christmas season, which was in fact 3rd time meeting each other.
First meeting was at Pune, India in October 2010. There was the international workshop on leprosy and human rights organized by SMHF, where Ms Yamaguchi, Trustee of SMHF, introduced Jaime to Artur.
Second meeting was at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in February 2011, where International symposium on leprosy and human rights held by The Nippon Foundation.
This time, Jaime invited Artur to discuss about Corsohansen’s museum and stigma and human rights in Colombia etc.. There also seems to be interaction program with residents at Agua de Dios, and we believe all the programme was much success through Corsohansen’s newsletter.
We wish their partnership further flourishing in South America.
